Applicants for a Standard Licence must prove that they are 'professionally competent’, or that they employ a transport manager who meets the requirements. Persons will be considered 'professionally competent' by passing the examinations for the Certificates of Professional Competence (CPC) conducted by OCR Examinations. The examination is administered by OCR on behalf of the Department for Transport.
QUALIFICATION STRUCTURE CPC NATIONAL - ROAD HAULAGE CPC INTERNATIONAL - ROAD HAULAGE Unit 1 - 30 multi-choice questions in 45 minutes. All modules as National PLUS - Unit 2 - 40 multi-choice questions in 60 minutes. Unit 6 Direct questions (written answers) 60 minutes. Unit 4 - Case Study paper (written answers) 120 minutes
Full CPC certificates are issued when all units are passed, individual module certificates will be issued if not successful with all exams. |

CPC is an essential requirement for anyone applying for a Goods Vehicle Operator's Licence or for staff with responsibility for the control of goods vehicles.
The Road Haulage industry has three types of Operators’ licence:
1. Standard National Licence additionally allows an operator to carry goods for other people for hire or reward in the UK. (National CPC required) 2. Standard International Licence additionally allows an operator to carry goods for hire or reward on international journeys. (International CPC required) 3. Restricted Licence allows an operator to carry goods in the course of his own trade or business in the UK or abroad. (No CPC holder is required - but background knowledge is essential to meet O’ Licence requirements.) |
